Our method

What we record, how we check it, and what we cannot tell you.

Tallow Index records what approved sources state about specific product variants. It does not replace medical advice and it does not pretend to test products.

01

Product identity

Every record names the brand, product, variant, scent, and size when those facts are available. Similar listings are not merged without evidence.

02

Dated sources

Every released assertion has a source, checked date, evidence state, snapshot hash, and release ID.

03

Visible uncertainty

Unknown, stale, and conflicting facts remain visible. An agent cannot silently guess or resolve a disagreement.

04

Commercial separation

Affiliate or sponsor status cannot change facts, match logic, search order, or evidence states.

05

Transparent matching

The matcher counts explicit preferences against supported facts. It reports matches, misses, and unknowns. It does not produce a medical or quality recommendation.

06

Versioned releases

A correction creates a new release. Old facts are not silently overwritten. Human pages and JSON endpoints read from the same release.

Evidence states

Verified means one approved source directly supports the fact. Corroborated means two or more independent sources agree. Single source means one source supports the fact, but the source type or coverage is limited. Conflicted means sources disagree. Stale means the last checked evidence is past its review window. Unknown means there is not enough evidence to state the fact. Rejected means the fact is held out of public release. These labels describe evidence condition. They are not scores, ratings, safety findings, or product recommendations.

Source priority

  1. Manufacturer product page
  2. Manufacturer label, specification, or FAQ
  3. Independent certifier or regulator
  4. Authorized retailer
  5. Large marketplace

Social posts and search results may help discovery, but they are not released as final product evidence.
